THE GRADE ELEMENT

SEVENTH RANK – NO BELT

When a student begins his/her training in the Tegatani system, he or she is designated a non-belt ranking. Most white belts are purchased with the buying of the student’s first Gi-suit, therefore the white belt has not been earned.

There are no fixed grade requirements at this stage, only main items of introduction to the system.

A) Etiquette i.e. Entering or leaving Dojo. Approach to High grades.

B) Presentation i.e. Attitude towards other students, general appearance and personal hygiene.

C) Priorities of Kempo i.e. Blocking, punching, striking, kicking, throwing and locking techniques.

6th RANK REQUIREMENT. No. 1 Level - WHITE BELT

DACHI – Stances

ZAZEN : - Meditation seated stance.

MUSUBI : - Salutation or relaxed stance.

YOI : - Ready or preparation stance.

FUDO : - Natural or earth stance.

KEMPO STANCE No. 1 : - Full step forward defence stance.(Fire)

TSUKI – Thrust punches

SEIKEN OI TSUKI : - Forward two-knuckle lunge punch.

SEIKEN GYUKU TSUKI : - Reverse two-knuckle punch.

To be practised in cross formation and combined with blocking.

UCHI – Strikes (arm bent on impact)

URAKEN SHOMEN : - Backfist strike to the front.

URAKEN YOKO SHOMEN : - Backfist strike to the side.

URAKEN MAWASHI SHOMEN : - Backfist strike in a circular attitude.

To be practised in cross formation.

UKEAN- UKE – Blocking methods.

JODAN AGE UKE : - Upper area rising block.

CHUDAN SOTO UKE : - Middle area outside block.

CHUDAN UCHI UKE : - Middle area inside block.

GADAN BARRI : - Lower area block.

JU-JI UKE : - Cross block.

To be practised with another student combined with countering in a full force controlled manner.

GERRI – Kicking (practice in

KEAGE - Snap and KOKOMI - Thrust)

MAE GERRI : - Front kick using ball of foot.

KIN GERRI : - Front kick with instep.

SHITSU GERRI : - Front kick with shin.

UKEMI – Breakfalls.

Forward roll, left and right sides.

KATA

FORMAL : - Five element form; Juni kata 1-3.

CREATIVE : - Fundamental forms 1 + 2.

RELEASES

Fundamental release forms 1 + 2, : - Natural grip, Unnatural grip.

CHARACTER

Presentation, appearance, etiquette, spirit.

TATAKEN GYAKU TSUKI : - Reverse one knuckle punch.

MOROTE TSUKI : - Reinforced punch.

TETTSUI UCHI SHOMEN : - Bottom fist to the front.

TETTSUI UCHI YOKO SHOMEN : - Bottom fist to the side

UKEAN-UKE – Blocking methods.

HAISHU : - Back of hand.

SHUTO : - Knife hand.

LOOSE TE : - Hand held loose; no tension.

To be practised with another student combined with countering in a full force controlled manner.

GERI – Kicking.

MAWASHI GERI : - Roundhouse kick with instep.

USHIRO GERI : - Back kick with heel.

YOKO GERI : - Side kick with heel.

To be practised in cross formation.

UKEMI – Breakfalls.

Forward dive, Backward breakfall.

KATA

FORMAL : - Juni kata 3-6, Saiza box pattern 1-3, +combination.

CREATIVE : - Fundamental forms 3 + 4.

RELEASES

Fundamental release forms 3 + 4 : - Assisted release, pull away release.

NAGE WAZA – Throws.
