PRINCIPALS OF THE TEGATANI WAY

As in all ancient Ryu art forms, each one is based on the principles as laid down by the founder of the system. These are the principals of the Tegatani way.

1. The five elements and their movements is the first principal of the Tegatani way, and is based on the understanding of the relationship of these ancient Chinese concepts and beliefs.

FIRE = Ki, Chi, the energy coming out from you. (Yang).

WATER = is the receiving or giving of energy. (Yin ).

WOOD = is the birth of a new movement or growth.

METAL = a movement like the curve of a sword.

EARTH = returning to a natural base.

There is much deeper understanding of these elements and the mind and body balances, which exist in the various levels.

Students of the Tegatani way study this section in more detail at the Black Belt stages.

2. The five basic hand Kempo attitudes.

The prime factor or commander attitude.

1) Seiken = the commander
2) Hiraken
3) Shuto
4) Nukite
5) Empi

3. The five body movements.

a) Circular --Goho = Yang
b) Straight
c) Bending
d) Tensing
e) Relaxing --Juho = Yin

4. Attitudes of the C's – see breakdown.

5. Attitudes of the Founder Director

ONE OF THE PRINCIPALS OF TEGATANI

All techniques of the Tegatani Kempo Renshu Kai system are based on the application of five body movements.

1. CIRCULAR
2. STRAIGHT
3. BENDING
4. TENSING
5. RELAXING

(Positive side) Goho- Stances, Blocks, Strikes, Eluding techniques, Punches, Kicks, Locking,Throwing,Bodywork

Passive side) Juho-Defence wazas,Twisting, Kusho, Body knowledge, Pressure points

Factors that comprise the psychological principals of the Tegatani Martial Art system.

These factors are few in number, but in effect, known as the three C's of Tegatani Martial Arts, they are confidence, calmness and concentration.

1. CONCENTRATION.

A mind like the moon, contrary to implying lunacy, refers to the necessity of being constantly aware of an opponent?s movements, down to the flicker of an eyelash – the way the moon shines it?s light on all things opposite to it's face.

2. CALMNESS.

A mind like water, untroubled water. There is a stressed need for the mind to remain calm during Kempo training, therefore enabling thought to flow as a smooth stream, and to reflect the thoughts of an opponent as a smooth pond reflects the images of all things around it.

3. CONFIDENCE.

The way of the willow tree. The very strongest branches of an Oak tree will break in a blowing gale, but the willow tree bends with the wind. Confidence must be considered a combination of the first two factors, plus the knowledge of physical fitness.

NOTE

Perhaps in this modern day and age one could increase the three C's of the Tegatani system to the five C's.

1. CONCENTRATION – Devote all attention

2. CALMNESS – Still-Tranquil

3. CONFIDENCE – Assurance-trust

4. COMMITMENT – Commitment in each move, pledge etc.

5. CONTENT (EMOTIONAL) – Willing-state of feelings, contained etc.
